A vacuum tube with three primary elements: the cathode, which emits electrons; the grid, which surrounds the cathode and offers a large amount of control over the current flow from the cathode; the plate, which encases both the cathode and the grid and receives the flow of electrons from the cathode and, to a much lesser degree than the grid, controls the flow of current from the cathode.
